The Rev. Bruce and Dorothy Burrows

When the floods came to Cumbria and flooded their new ground floor flat

Bruce and Dorothy were away visiting their daughter Anne in Edinburgh. They had been warned of the danger of flooding as in 2005 those houses were flooded and people did not get back to their homes for 12 months. After this earlier time work took place on the buildings ensuring that if the same should happen again a much quicker drying process was in place. Bruce and Dorothy now hope to return home early in the new year.

Floods in Workington. The effect on Church members at Emmanuel Workington

These floods made the National news headlines.!

There are two main bridges over the Derwent in Workington; one

collapsed and the other moved. A footbridge also collapsed so members in Seaton could not be reached without going a very long way round.  A new temporary bridge built by the Army meant that foot passengers are now able to cross the river. There is a relatively new bridge at Cockermouth. After the flood communications with people from Emmanuel were difficult not only because of the road but also because Telephone lines were down and not every member had mobiles. Members north of the river found it impossible to get to Church services.

Our prayers go out to our friends in Workington as they slowly recover from a very stressful time.
